I recently posted some photos of a trip I sponsored to hunt elk in Texas. All five of us were successful and really enjoyed the experience. I received a few comments that real elk hunting is done out West. I believe you cannot beat a stroll in the Rockies for elk. It is breathtaking and much more demanding. But if we look at the big picture, the hunts in Texas serve a lot of people very well. I hunted the mountains in Colorado and New Mexico for a number of years. Mostly with clients. But there are a number of people that cannot handle the high elevation of the Rockies. The handicapped, elderly, or some type of breathing condition can...
Just so ya'll know it is only 5-6 months away from spring turkey season! I am truly a "turkaholic" and cannot wait for spring gobbling to begin. We all have our go to call and I would not hit the woods without my Zink Calls, Matt Morrett diaphragm calls. I have been fortunate to have taken 32 gobblers in the last four years alone and that call really makes a difference. If you have not tried one give it a try. And by the way I am not affiliated with Zink. Just passing on what I think is a fabulous call.
Merriam Magic in Nebraska! What a great hunt in the wilds of Nebraska. We killed all mature gobblers but encountered literally 100's of Jakes. Which means there will be gobblers behind every cedar in our area next year. If you are looking to complete your slam or just want to shoot some beautiful birds give me a call. Oh, and the permits can be bought on line or over the counter. It's a truly great experience!
If you enjoy grilling and want a great marinade to soak that spring Gobbler in, please try this great marinade supplied by Paul Morgan. Turkey Marinade Ingredients 1 cup olive oil 1/2cup soy 1/2 cup Worcester 3 Tbl spoons brown sugar 2-3 Tbl spoons garlic minced 1/4 cup cooking sherry 3-4 good shakes ginger Directions Simply mix all the ingredients, cut turkey breasts into strips, soak as long as you wish, and place on grill. It will cook quickly so don't overcook. It is the best I have ever tried. Enjoy!
